Located in the center of Tropea, a walled city whose origins are the basis of legend, this ancient convent had a long and fascinating history.
It seems that during the roman era it was an hospital for the soldiers coming back from the "Crociate".
Than, for a long time the convento has been the house of "Suore della Clarissa" and during the second world war it has been a barracks.
The lower part was built in the 13th Century, while the upper part was finished in the 17th Century. In the end of the 1980s it has been restored and renovated, while keeping its beauty and original charme, and it has been converted into seven separate homes.
Two of these (belonging to the 13th Century part) have been restored with its rustic simplicity from two famous Italian architects: Nanda Vigo from Milan who took care of the structural arrangements and Luigi Giffone from Rome who overviewed the interior designs.
By staying in this convent you have the possibility to live the experience of a lifetime in a fantastic atmosphere and surroundings that will remain for long in the memories of the trip.
Il Convento is an opportunity to experience the simple beauty of an earlier time with some modern comfort.
